Oh, Sara is so clever!” Lavinia often said. "Sara is so good at French! Her dresses are so beautiful, and she can sing so well! And she is so rich! Of course Miss Minchin likes her best!"
Sara did not answer when Lavinia said these things. Sometimes, it was not easy, but Sara was a kind, friendly girl, and she did not like to be angry with anyone.
2. The diamond mines
And so three years went by. Sara's father wrote to her often, and Sara wrote loving little letters back to him. One day a very exciting letter arrived. Everybody in the school talked about it for days.
Watching my dad chum it up with Juli's dad—it was like seeing him lie. To Mr. Baker, to Juli, to my grandfather—to everybody. Why was he being such a worm? Why couldn't he just act normal?
You know, civil? Why did he have to put on such a phony show? This went way beyond keeping the peace with my mother. This was disgusting.
And people said I was the spitting image of my father. How often had I heard that one? I'd never thought about it much, but now it was turning my stomach.
Mom jingled the dinner bell and called, “Hors d'oeuvres are ready!” and then saw me still standing in the hallway. “Bryce, where'd your sister and the boys go?”
I shrugged. “Down to her room, I think.” “Go tell them, would you? And then come have some hors d'oeuvres.”
“Sure,” I said. Anything to get rid of the taste in my mouth.

You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
"My friend," Mr Crewe wrote it in the letter, has some mines in the North India, the workers found diamonds there a month before. There were many diamonds in the mimes, but it's a work that costs much to mine. My friend needs my help, so little Mithas," (This was the nickname for Mr Crewe to Sara.)"I put all my money into my friend's mines. We will be very rich one day..."
Sara was not interested in money. But it was an exciting story that he found mines in India. Almost everyone was happy for Sara, except Lavinia.

'my friend'Mr Crook wrote in the letter.'workers found diamond in the mine of northern India sevral monthes ago
there are much diamond in the mine.but exploiting the mine is a high investment work.
my friend need my help,so Millet(this is a nickname of Mr Crook to Sarah),i have invested all of my money into my friend's mine.
one day we will become very rich....'
Sarah was not interesting in it,but it was exciting to find a mine in India.
almost all people were happy with Sarah, except ravinia.
'hum!'she said.'my mother has a diamond.many people have diamond.
is it so proud to find a diamond mine?'
'but there are thousands of diamond in those mine,'Ermengarde said.
'it may be millions!'ravinia smiled'did Sarah have breakfast with diamond on her head?
or just really call her prince Sarah now?'
Sarah's face became red when she hear it.she looked at ravinia angrily, but still said calmly
'someone called me prince,i know it.but the prince would not get angry easily,
and also would not say something to make others unhappy.so would not say anything with you, ravinia'
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.
"Hum!" She said, "my mother has a diamond. Many people have diamonds. Is it proud to find a diamond mine?"
"But there are hundreds of diamonds in the diamond mines," Ermangarde said, "perhaps there are some million diamonds!" Lavinia laughed: "Does Sara wear diamonds on her head when she eats breakfast? Maybe now are we going to call her 'Princess Sara'?"
Sara heard it and her face went red. She looked at Lavinia angrily, but said quietly: "someone calls me 'Princess', I know it, but a princess wasn't angry, and will not say something unhappy, so I'm not going to talk to you, Lavinia."
